Julian Epstein, a seasoned Democratic attorney, voiced his opposition to Michigan’s Democratic Senate nominee, Abdul El-Sayed. Epstein, who served as chief legal counsel for House Democrats during the Clinton impeachment and represented Hillary Clinton’s campaign, expressed his views through an op-ed in The New York Post. In an interview with Fox News Digital, Epstein announced his support for El-Sayed’s Republican opponent, Mike Rogers.
Epstein criticized the current direction of the Democratic Party, stating, “The Democrats have gone off the deep end.” He argued that the party no longer accommodates those who aim to protect the Constitution and distance themselves from radical Islam and antisemitism. According to Epstein, the party’s focus on wealth redistribution over economic growth undermines its effectiveness in combating poverty.
He warned that the party is alienating a significant portion of its base, with many likely to shift their support to other candidates. Epstein highlighted his belief that the Democratic Party has strayed too far left ideologically and lost its moral foundation.
In contrast, Epstein praised Mike Rogers as a pragmatic candidate likely to appeal to more moderate voters, suggesting that Rogers would have fit within the Democratic fold during the Clinton era. Rogers, who is making direct appeals to Democratic voters, offers an alternative to El-Sayed’s progressive stance.
El-Sayed recently secured a narrow primary victory against Michigan Rep. Haley Stevens. Despite significant backing from prominent Democrats, it remains uncertain if Stevens’ supporters will rally behind El-Sayed in the general election.
In his op-ed, Epstein criticized El-Sayed for aligning with beliefs that prioritize wealth redistribution without emphasis on creation. He accused El-Sayed of sympathizing with Middle Eastern terrorist movements and suggested that his views on Israel are controversial. Epstein also censured El-Sayed’s campaign surrogate, Hasan Piker, for controversial statements regarding the U.S. and other global figures.
Epstein emphasized the need for Democrats to distance themselves from extreme positions to succeed in the upcoming election.
