Palmetto State Democrats have selected Dr. Annie Andrews as their candidate to potentially face incumbent Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., in the upcoming November elections. Dr. Andrews, known for her work as a pediatrician, emerged victorious from a three-way primary contest in South Carolina. She aims to challenge Graham, who is pursuing his fifth term.
Historically, South Carolina has not elected a Democrat to the Senate since the 1990s. The last Democratic senator was Fritz Hollings, who served until his retirement in 2005.

Previously, Andrews engaged in a debate with Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., for South Carolina’s 1st Congressional District. While her immediate goal is to unseat Graham, Andrews has also pledged to advocate for the impeachment of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., despite the Senate’s role being limited to the final step in impeachment proceedings.
In a recent op-ed for MS Now, Andrews criticized Kennedy, stating, “We’re kidding ourselves if we pretend leadership doesn’t matter,” in reference to a measles outbreak and highlighting Kennedy’s role in the anti-vaccine movement. She further noted the challenge in restoring public trust, emphasizing that it takes substantial time to rebuild.

Senator Graham is encountering a competitive six-way primary, including contenders like businessman Mark Lynch. This primary is viewed as a barometer of President Donald Trump’s endorsement influence amid divisions in his Make America Great Again movement.
Lynch, aligning himself as a constitutional conservative, has been endorsed by Trump’s former National Counterterrorism Center Director Joe Kent, who considers Lynch positioned to successfully challenge Graham.
