I am not going to be in the same party with Hasan Piker, Carville stated during an appearance on The Sunday Briefing. He expressed strong opposition to Piker, who had previously made incendiary comments, later retracted, about America deserving 9/11. Carville’s remarks underscore his unwillingness to align with figures like Piker within the Democratic Party.

Carville’s stance indicates a belief that the Democratic Party stands at a historic crossroads. According to Carville, the party’s direction will be determined primarily by its base come 2028. He anticipates a robust field of candidates representing diverse wings of the party, including members of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).

The 2028 primary election is expected to be highly competitive. Potential candidates include Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Gavin Newsom, Pete Buttigieg, Kamala Harris, and Rahm Emanuel. Carville argues that the resolution cannot rely on media or panels; instead, it rests with Democratic voters who will decide the party’s future direction.

This can’t be solved through op-ed pieces or TV panels. It must be decided by the Democrats themselves, Carville insisted. He noted that Democrats will have a variety of options, and the popularity of each will determine the party’s path.

In response to questions about the possible ascendancy of the democratic socialist wing, Carville hinted at a potential schism if that direction is chosen. Carville signaled that he might depart from the party if its direction does not align with his views, especially as he approaches his 80s.
