Dramatic Rescue from Blaze in Berlin High-Rise

A fire broke out in an 18-story apartment building in Berlin’s Friedrichshain neighborhood around 6:30 a.m. on Friday. The fire started on the 11th floor and quickly spread to the floor above, causing flames and thick smoke to pour from the building.

The situation prompted a significant emergency response. Authorities noted the challenge posed by the number of people involved and the large scale of the fire.

A dramatic rescue effort was captured on video. A woman, dressed in sweatpants, made a risky escape by moving along the window ledge of an 11th-floor apartment while flames and smoke threatened her safety. Below, a firefighter in the basket of a turntable ladder attempted to reach her.

The woman struggled to descend safely but ultimately leapt two floors down into the firefighter’s rescue basket. She sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

In total, the fire impacted 115 residents. Of these, 25 individuals were rescued or ensured safety using fire-escape hoods and the turntable ladder. Thirteen sustained minor injuries and received medical attention, with some requiring hospitalization.

The emergency response included 18 fire engines, two aerial ladder trucks, and nine ambulances. The cause of the fire remains unknown.
