Trump Inspects Redevelopment Projects, Sparks Controversy Over Comments

1 day ago 0

President Trump surveyed construction projects in the nation’s capital on Sunday. Among these was the East Potomac Golf Links, which he aims to redevelop to host premier golf tournaments such as The U.S. Open, The Ryder Cup, and The PGA Championship.

However, the course’s redevelopment faces a lawsuit in U.S. District Court. The timeline for hosting major tournaments remains unclear, given that locations are selected years in advance. The U.S. Open sites are set through 2051, with openings in 2043, 2046, and 2048, while the PGA Championship has locations set through 2035.

Trump expressed displeasure with the golf course’s grass and sprinkler system condition but mentioned additional debris containing toxic metals had been dumped from the White House East Wing demolition.

Accompanied by Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, golf course architect Tom Fazio, and his son Gavin Fazio, Trump plans to commence work on the golf course by Sept. 1.

Trump also visited updates to Lafayette Park and drove around the area for a proposed triumphal arch construction. Meanwhile, he commented on Janeese Lewis George, who won Washington’s mayoral Democratic primary, calling her a “Communist.”

During a news conference, Lewis George stated she would collaborate with the president for the best interest of D.C. residents, yet refused to pre-emptively comply with requests that could undermine the locally elected government.
