Vacationers experienced a terrifying ordeal on Monday when a projectile hit a crowded beach in a Russian Black Sea resort, resulting in seven deaths, including four children. Many others sustained injuries, officials reported.
The incident occurred in the village of Arkhipo-Osipovka near Gelendzhik. Video footage captured the chaos on the beach filled with visitors during the attack.
The Russian Mission in Geneva accused Ukraine of launching the attack with a drone, specifically targeting civilians.
Regional Governor Veniamin Kondratyev confirmed, The attack targeted civilian infrastructure. Emergency and special services are working at the crash site.
He labeled the event a terrorist attack against civilians, emphasizing the involvement of children.
Andriy Kovalenko, an officer with Ukraine’s Defense Forces, contested Russia’s version. He claimed the casualties resulted from Russian air defenses intercepting the drone, which led to debris falling on the beach.
In a video of the incident, gunfire sounds preceded the drone strike, causing an explosion and panic. Witnesses heard these noises before observing the drone sharply descend to the beach.
Preliminary Russian reports mentioned that deaths resulted from falling drone debris.
Kovalenko responded on Telegram, stating that Ukraine uses weapons against Russian military-industrial sites to diminish Moscow’s war funding abilities. He criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin, accusing him of downplaying the danger to maintain a false sense of security in Russia.
Putin deliberately killed these people,
Kovalenko stated, further blaming Putin’s air defense actions for the deaths.
