Economic Concerns Influence Undecided Voters in Senate Races
Undecided voters in Iowa and Georgia are increasingly worried about the economy and rising costs, according to recent focus groups. These states are crucial in the race for Senate control as Election Day nears.
“Nothing has improved regarding the cost of living, inflation—food prices are sky-high, gas costs are unmanageable,” said Patty O., a 59-year-old Georgia Republican who supported Trump in 2024. “The cost of living is so high right now.”
Patty was among twelve voters involved in focus groups organized by Syracuse University and research firms Engagious and Sago, observed by NBC News. The group included six independents, five Republicans, and one Democrat. Nine voters supported Trump two years ago when he won in both states, while three backed Kamala Harris. All but three expressed more economic anxiety now than when Trump re-assumed office. Eight felt Trump isn’t sufficiently focused on economic issues.
Trump’s stance on economic problems is crucial for these voters, as inflation and cost of living pressures dominate their concerns.
