Iran Accuses Qatar of Detaining Pilots

Iran claimed that Qatar was holding three of its pilots who had been missing since March. The pilots were reportedly captured when their jets were downed. However, Qatar denied these claims. This announcement marks the first claim by Iran suggesting a regional country is holding its fighters.

Earlier, Qatar stated it downed two Iranian bombers due to threats against countries hosting U.S. military bases. Iran has requested assistance from the International Committee of the Red Cross. Qatar’s foreign ministry confirmed the pilots were shot down and their remains were found, inviting Iran to be briefed.

Tanker Attacked in the Strait of Hormuz

An ADNOC-owned tanker faced an attack in the Strait of Hormuz, adding to recent assaults on UAE-operated vessels. The UAE called on Iran to stop these unprovoked strikes. Meanwhile, the UK Maritime Trade Operations noted a bulk carrier was struck by an unknown projectile. It is unclear if it was the same vessel involved.

With the strait being vital for global oil and gas transportation, these incidents emphasize rising tensions. Iran assumed control over the strait after conflicts began, impacting international conversations over the waterway’s management.

Israeli Airstrikes in Lebanon

Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon resulted in the deaths of 11 individuals, including a Hezbollah commander and civilians. The strikes were a response to Hezbollah’s actions against Israeli soldiers. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reported injuries among Israeli soldiers, blaming an explosive drone.
