2021: Tragic Incident Involving Chicago Police
Chicago police faced a devastating event when Officer Ella French, aged 29, was shot and killed during a traffic stop in the West Englewood neighborhood. Her partner, Carlos Yanez Jr., was also critically injured. Two brothers, Emonte and Eric Morgan, were in the vehicle with a woman. Emonte, 21, was charged with first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder of a peace officer. Eric, 22, faced charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, and obstructing justice. In 2023, Eric pleaded guilty and received a seven-year prison sentence. Emonte was convicted the subsequent year and sentenced to life imprisonment.
