Fans gathered outside a church in Wales on Monday to honor the late singer Bonnie Tyler. As the rose-covered coffin arrived at Swansea Minster, her song “If I Sing You A Love Song” played in tribute.

The ceremony was exclusive to invitees, with the proceedings broadcast on a screen for those outside. Her hit “It’s a Heartache” was played when the coffin was placed at the altar. Her manager, Matthew Davis, remarked on her enduring fame, saying, “Bonnie was always a star but never a diva. She never forgot her roots.” He noted the global outpouring of love following her recent passing.

Tyler, known for her 1983 hit “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” passed away in Portugal at age 75 after undergoing emergency surgery. The funeral occurred shortly after her signature song played during eclipse celebrations in Europe.

Crowds paid their respects as her hearse, draped with a Welsh flag, passed through her hometown of Mumbles. Kathleen Davies, among the fans present, spoke of Tyler’s authenticity, asserting, “She’s Welsh through and through.”

Born Gaynor Hopkins, Tyler hailed from Skewen, Wales, and was one of six children. She first performed at a rugby club in the late 1960s, securing second place with one pound in prize money. This sparked her musical journey.

Tyler received three Grammy nominations and represented Britain at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2013. She was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire in 2022, primarily due to her iconic ballad.

Besides “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” which has been streamed over a billion times, she was known for “Holding Out For a Hero,” featured in the “Footloose” soundtrack.
