Federal Arson Case on Palisades Fire Ends in Mistrial

1 hour ago 0

After the federal arson case concerning the accused individual in last year’s deadly Palisades Fire resulted in a mistrial, a local resident, Darrin Hurwitz, expressed his concerns. His questions focus on city and fire officials rather than the defendant.

This mistrial follows the incident from June 30, 2026. Crews are working to clear debris and handle hazardous materials from the damage left by the fire. The fire’s aftermath has been challenging for many local residents.

Hurwitz relocated to the Palisades area of Los Angeles in 2022 with his family. I initially spoke with him shortly after the fire in January. At that time, he shared his insights on the disaster’s origins.

The Washington Post had reported visual evidence indicating the blaze was a re-ignition of a previous fire. This earlier fire began on New Year’s Eve. On the morning of January 7, 2025, Hurwitz had been hiking near the burn scar from the original fire. During his hike, he noticed the smell of smoke.
