Federal authorities conducted a search of Rep. Ilhan Omar’s Washington, D.C. residence on Monday. Federal agents from Homeland Security Investigations carried out a search warrant authorized by the Department of Justice. This action aligns with an ongoing federal investigation, though specific details of the probe remain undisclosed.
Rep. Ilhan Omar voiced her criticism of the search on social media, describing it as a tactic to silence political adversaries. She asserted, “This is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement. I will not be silenced.”
During the search, several agents were visible around Omar’s home. According to Jackie Rogers, Omar’s spokesperson, the event was termed a “raid” and criticized as a substantial misuse of power. Rogers labeled it an unprecedented act aimed at political confrontation.
“This is an outrageous abuse of power and an unprecedented escalation in the weaponization of federal law enforcement to target political enemies,” stated Rogers.
Local resident Sharon Jackson, who resides across from Omar, reported that the federal agents’ actions disrupted her early Monday morning. She described being awakened by the commotion of agents arriving with a large vehicle. “I got awakened by boom, boom, boom,” Jackson recounted.
The timing of the search is noteworthy, occurring shortly before the upcoming midterm elections. Omar is currently campaigning for reelection. Previously, Vice President Vance has accused Omar of committing immigration fraud, an allegation she has consistently denied.
