Heavy rainfall led to a second confirmed death at Grand Canyon National Park, as devastating flash floods impacted the area over the weekend. Park officials reported the tragic outcome and the ongoing search for missing individuals on Monday.
The flooding affected a remote location, commonly frequented by hikers and campers, with more than a dozen people currently unaccounted for. The search and recovery missions are concentrated along Bright Angel Creek. This creek originates near the canyon’s north rim and extends down to the Colorado River, according to the National Park Service.
The agency indicated that anticipated rain and thunderstorms could further hinder search efforts. As the situation unfolds, authorities remain vigilant about the weather’s impact on rescue operations.
Late Sunday, officials revealed the discovery of the first victim, a 46-year-old male, located near Crystal Rapids by the Colorado River. The Park Service has not provided further details regarding the second victim.
