Former BYU Player Curtis Brown Faces Tragic Loss

Former BYU Cougars football player Curtis Brown is facing unimaginable sorrow as his family mourns the death of his two-year-old son, Haze. The tragic incident occurred at the Brown family’s residence in Clovis, California, on July 26, when Haze drowned in their pool. Authorities confirmed the details to the New York Post.

To support the struggling family, a GoFundMe page was initiated by Chandler Pearson, a family friend, who described the situation as an “unimaginable loss.” Pearson emphasized the importance of community support for Kim and Curtis Brown during this difficult time.

“Kim and Curtis recently lost their miracle baby, Haze, in a tragic drowning accident. No words can ease the heartbreak they are facing as they grieve the loss of their precious son,” Pearson wrote on the GoFundMe page.

“Many of you know and love Kim, Curtis, and their family, and have reached out asking how you can support them during this incredibly difficult time. One meaningful way to help is by contributing to this GoFundMe campaign. Your donation will help ease the financial burden of funeral expenses and other unexpected costs, allowing the Brown family to focus on healing and being together.”

“Every act of kindness, no matter the size, reminds them that they are surrounded by a community that loves them deeply. Thank you for your generosity, compassion, and support during this heartbreaking time.”

Haze was discovered unconscious in the pool by a family member who immediately called 911. Emergency personnel arrived and attempted CPR, but sadly, the efforts were unsuccessful. Haze was taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared deceased.

At the time of writing, the GoFundMe campaign had raised $77,375 of its $100,000 goal. The funds aim to ease the financial pressure on the family during this period.

Clovis Police Department spokesman Ty Wood stressed the importance of supervised swimming for children, recommending that adults learn CPR and keep rescue equipment nearby.

Curtis Brown and his wife Kim have five children, including son Trey and triplets Cruze, Julie, and Kash.

Brown made a notable impact while playing for the BYU Cougars from 2002 to 2006. He excelled in 2004, accumulating 789 yards on 158 carries and securing six touchdowns. The following season, Brown led the Mountain West Conference with 14 rushing touchdowns and achieved 1,123 yards on 210 carries. He also recorded 454 receiving yards with two more touchdowns through the air.

In his final season, Brown amassed 1,010 rushing yards and 566 receiving yards, contributing a total of 10 touchdowns across 13 games. Brown concluded his college career with 3,241 rushing yards, 1,309 receiving yards, and 36 touchdowns over 52 games, setting a school rushing record that stood until 2009.

In 2007, Brown pursued an NFL career with the Cincinnati Bengals as an undrafted free agent but was released before the regular season began.

BYU has not yet responded to requests for comment on the tragedy.
