GOP Senators Support Darline Graham Nordone Following Lindsey Graham’s Passing

In the wake of Sen. Lindsey Graham’s death, Senate Republicans have rallied behind the temporary appointment of his sister, Darline Graham Nordone, to represent South Carolina. Senator Roger Marshall expressed confidence in her abilities. He remarked that she would uphold the same values and offered his belief in her capability. ‘She’ll know how he would vote,’ he said, highlighting her understanding of political issues.

Graham’s sudden passing due to aortic dissection triggered swift action from South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster. Within two days, he appointed Nordone, allowing her to serve until the end of Graham’s term in January. This decision won praise from President Donald Trump, an ally of McMaster, who backed Nordone for the role.

Senator Kevin Cramer emphasized the importance of continuity for the country and endorsed McMaster’s choice. He noted, ‘The Senate needs to do its work, and this appointment is perfect.’ Nordone’s appointment temporarily restores the Republican Senate majority, now numbering 53 seats.

‘Everybody’s loving that,’ remarked Senator John Hoeven about Nordone’s position. He recalled Graham’s deep personal devotion to his sister, stepping in as her legal guardian when she was just 13. Graham provided significant support, including helping her qualify for military benefits and encouraging her education.

Discussing personal connections, GOP senators fondly remembered Graham’s character. Senator Marshall stated Graham possessed a rare ability to create friendships, with many considering him their best friend. Cramer echoed similar sentiments, noting Graham’s hospitality and kindness, both personally and professionally.

A special primary election is scheduled soon, beginning with a one-week filing period on July 21. The subsequent special primary election will take place on August 11. Nordone has yet to announce a decision about pursuing a full six-year term. Meanwhile, Reps. Nancy Mace and Ralph Norman from South Carolina have started preparing for possible campaigns. If needed, a runoff election will happen on August 25, providing two months for campaigning before voters head to the general election polls on November 3.
