States like Alabama and Florida are investigating if Fauci can be held accountable under state law for his actions during the pandemic. At a Senate hearing, Fauci invoked his Fifth Amendment right 111 times.
Senator Josh Hawley from Missouri argued that a blanket pardon from former President Joe Biden removed Fauci’s federal criminal liability. However, Senator Tommy Tuberville from Alabama stated that the pardon does not prevent state-level prosecution, as it only covers offenses against the United States.
Tuberville criticized Fauci, blaming him for numerous deaths in Alabama. He plans to pursue state-level accountability should he become governor. Tuberville also encouraged citizens to file civil claims against the immunologist.
Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier confirmed an ongoing investigation into Fauci’s tenure during the pandemic. The inquiry aims to uncover what Fauci knew, when he knew it, and whether his actions violated Florida law, according to Uthmeier press secretary Jae Williams.
Lt. Governor Jay Collins, running for governor in Florida, supports Uthmeier’s investigation. Collins, a retired disabled veteran, criticized Fauci’s pandemic policies which impacted veterans like him.
Collins and DeSantis reacted to Fauci’s criticism found in his diary, emphasizing their state’s efforts to counter federal advice during the pandemic.
In California, Republican gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton announced plans to establish a COVID Accountability Commission. This panel would examine efforts by Fauci and state officials to address policy failures during the pandemic.
Fox News Digital reached out to Dr. Fauci for a comment through his legal counsel. Governor DeSantis’ office did not provide additional comments.
