Twin Falls, Idaho — A terrifying incident unfolded at an In-N-Out Burger on Saturday, where a gunman opened fire, resulting in multiple casualties and injuries. Lane Koehn, 34, witnessed the chaos while waiting at a stoplight near the fast-food outlet. An armed bystander may have played a crucial role in preventing further harm by distracting the shooter.
Koehn observed a person carrying an AR-style rifle emerging from the drive-thru. Bullets struck a vehicle in front of him, and the shooter advanced toward Koehn’s car. According to Koehn, a bystander in the drive-thru line began firing at the suspect, diverting his attention and possibly saving lives.
“I could tell he was trying to figure out where to go, and somebody in the drive-through line with a handgun was shooting at him,” Koehn explained. He described the shooter as “panicked” and acting “erratically.” Koehn believes the bystander’s actions allowed people to escape safely.
The identities of the bystander and the gunman are yet to be released. The attack resulted in three fatalities, with at least five others injured, stated Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks. The suspect is deceased, though Hicks did not specify if he was part of the confirmed death count.
Koehn recounted witnessing the aftermath before police arrived. He pulled into a parking area opposite the restaurant and saw an employee assisting a colleague with a gunshot wound. “She was just screaming and screaming her name, telling her, ‘Wake up.’ She was in and out of it,” Koehn recounted. A retired EMT nearby provided first aid until paramedics quickly evacuated the victim.
Lynsi Snyder, president of In-N-Out Burger, confirmed a worker was among the deceased. Her statement expressed deep sorrow for the loss of an employee catering to customers when tragedy struck.
The Twin Falls Police Department reassured residents of continued law enforcement support despite the incident. Agencies from Twin Falls County, Nampa, Caldwell, Meridian, and the Idaho State Police are collaborating with the local police department to bolster security. The FBI has established a digital tip line for the public to aid investigations by submitting relevant media.
