The lone juror whose decision resulted in a mistrial in the Lindsay Clancy case is sharing his perspective publicly. Represented by Attorney Edward Paltzik, juror Michael P. Desronvil has denied claims that he expressed any doubt about the prosecution’s argument.
Desronvil insists that he believed the prosecution had convincingly demonstrated that Clancy was aware of her actions when she reportedly strangled her three children in January 2023. He stated, “I didn’t have any doubts. Based on the physical evidence and key witness testimonies, I felt there was enough proof she knew what she was doing.” His remarks challenge fellow jurors’ reports that he indicated uncertainty during deliberations.
The jury split 11-1, with Desronvil the sole juror in favor of convicting Clancy rather than accepting her insanity plea. This divide led Judge William Sullivan to declare a mistrial.
The question is whether they could ever get a jury, particularly in Massachusetts, that would unanimously vote against this defendant, said Fox News contributor Jonathan Turley, regarding the challenges Plymouth County prosecutors face in possibly retrying Clancy.
Lindsay Clancy, previously a nurse, has admitted to killing her children — Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months. However, she claims severe mental illness renders her not criminally responsible. The prosecution maintains she comprehended her actions.
As the case unfolds, Judge Sullivan has decided to seal the jurors’ identities due to safety considerations. Clancy’s return to court is scheduled for September 29, when it will be decided if she will face another trial.
