For several weeks, Gordon Campbell, a resident near Glasgow, Scotland, was puzzled as milk delivered to his doorstep kept disappearing. To find out what was happening, Campbell decided to set up a security camera. What he discovered was unexpected—a young fox was taking the milk.
Initially, Campbell suspected that a human might be behind the thefts. He even humorously considered the notion that a ‘militant vegan’ could be responsible. However, after setting up a security camera, he saw footage of the fox approaching his door, taking a bottle in its mouth, and trotting away with it.
The mystery had lingered for about a month before Campbell figured it out. In the meantime, he had temporarily stopped the milk deliveries, choosing instead to buy milk from the grocery store. Determined to solve the mystery, Campbell devised a plan by placing a spare bottle of milk outside with the camera positioned to catch the perpetrator. The plan worked when the fox appeared just after 2:30 a.m., drawn to the bait.
Campbell found the situation amusing, describing the fox as ‘cute’ and finding humor in its antics. He mentioned his plans to protect future milk deliveries by using a protective box on his doorstep.
This wasn’t the first time foxes had appeared around Campbell’s home. Some months earlier, his cat, Bruce, had chased another fox away when it tried to enter the house through the cat door.
In light of these events, Campbell is considering restarting his milk deliveries, now that he has a plan to keep them safe from the neighborhood fox.
