The House of Representatives’ watchdog is currently examining claims against Texas House Republican, Rep. Lance Gooden. He dismissed these allegations as unfounded on Monday.
Rep. Lance Gooden, a Republican from Texas, faces an inquiry by the House Committee on Ethics. The announcement surfaced in the afternoon. The exact reason for the investigation isn’t yet clear, but Gooden indicated it’s related to financial matters in a statement to Fox News Digital, asserting his innocence.

Gooden described these allegations as fraudulent, caused by deceptive, unelected officials from the Office of Congressional Conduct (OCC). He expressed confidence in the House Ethics Committee affirming their baseless nature.
The committee stated it is extending a review of an issue reported to the OCC on June 10, 2026. This serves as a preliminary step before determining if a full investigation should be initiated.
“The Committee will announce its course of action in this matter on or before November 9,” the notice read.
The OCC operates independently and without partisan bias, tasked with assessing accusations against House members, staff, and officers.
OCC members scrutinize these claims and decide if they should be referred to the House Ethics Committee. Their investigations span topics such as earmarks, travel, financial disclosure, and legal expense funds.
Monday’s announcement suggests the Ethics panel investigating Rep. Lance Gooden’s allegations is in its initial stages. Lawmakers will soon determine whether to advance this to a formal investigation requiring an investigatory subcommittee.
