On Thursday, four House Republicans dissented from President Donald Trump and the majority of their party. They voted with Democrats to pass a resolution aimed at halting U.S. military action in Iran unless Congress grants explicit authorization. Representatives Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania, Warren Davidson of Ohio, Tom Barrett of Michigan, and Thomas Massie of Kentucky supported the measure. The resolution passed with a vote of 214 to 208. The same four Republicans had previously opposed Trump’s powers regarding the Iran issue in June.
This vote represents a rare bipartisan challenge to the administration amid growing concerns on Capitol Hill over the escalating conflict. Although largely symbolic, the resolution indicates weakening Republican unity as the Senate considers a similar measure scheduled for later Thursday.
