Hunter Mahan’s Journey Back Into Golf

4 weeks ago 0

Hunter Mahan, once blazed a trail in professional golf competing on the PGA Tour, found himself burnt out by 2021. The relentless demands of the sport and a non-stop schedule led him to step away from the competition. Over the past five years, Mahan embraced life at home as a devoted father and ventured into coaching high school golf. Recently, he felt the urge to reconnect with golf, albeit in a new role.

Mahan, a notable six-time winner on the PGA Tour, entered the golf content scene in June. His activities range from sharing his personal journey back into the sport to posting instructional videos. His content has drawn a growing Instagram audience of over 55,000 followers.

“My wife took some videos and said, ‘You should start playing a little bit more, I can tell you’re interested,’” Mahan mentioned in an interview with OutKick. “I went to the course the next day, hit record and talked about my plans. The feedback was incredibly positive, almost overwhelming. We were surprised by the reception.”

Hunter Mahan, of the United States, played his shot from the sixth tee during the first round of the Valspar Championship at Innisbrook Resort on April 29, 2021. While enjoying creating golf content, Mahan is contemplating a return to competitive golf. He could potentially compete on the PGA Tour Champions once he turns 50, provided the competitive spirit continues to burn.

“I’m exploring everything right now,” Mahan noted. “I have over five years before I qualify for the senior tour. Competing on the Champions Tour could be fun, with many friends from my golfing past turning 50 around the same time.”

During the first round of the Sony Open in Hawaii on January 14, 2021 at Waialae Country Club in Honolulu, Hunter Mahan hit his shot on the second tee. Reflecting on potential opportunities in golf, Mahan shares how enjoyable it has been to experience the sport’s community reactions from both professional and amateur perspectives.

“I have time to figure things out,” Mahan stated. “I am seeking the best avenues for creating more golf content. The discussions I’ve had within the golf community have been enlightening. Experiencing reactions from professional and non-professional circles has been rewarding.”

With his impressive career, including reaching the Top Five in the Official World Golf Ranking in 2012, Mahan would immediately qualify for PGA Tour Champions at age 50. His wins on the PGA Tour, such as the 2007 Travelers Championship, establish his status.

Should Mahan return to competition, he could bring new dimensions to the senior circuit through his unique journey and insights into golf. His ongoing engagement with the sport exemplifies his passion for golf, both in content creation and potentially in rejuvenating his competitive career.
