The WNBA will pause for a couple of weeks to allow players to participate in the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup. Before this hiatus, the Indiana Fever faced off against the Connecticut Sun at home.
After a recent 113-90 victory over the Chicago Sky, Caitlin Clark and her teammates aimed to keep their momentum going. The Connecticut Sun, seeking their 11th win of the season, brought fierce competition. Despite a challenging season, the Sun surged ahead in the first quarter, leading 28-19.
Royce White’s bold appearance at the game in a blonde wig added to the evening’s intrigue.
Facing a first-quarter deficit, the Fever responded decisively. They dominated the second quarter, outscoring the Sun 39-15. This impressive turnaround gave them a strong 58-43 lead at halftime.
In the third quarter, Caitlin Clark delivered a stunning assist to Kelsey Mitchell. This was one of Clark’s 12 assists, contributing to Mitchell’s 34-point game. Mitchell now leads the WNBA in total points following her remarkable performance.
Remarkably, Clark matched Mitchell’s score, achieving 34 points herself. Their combined efforts continued to set records for the most games with teammates scoring 30-plus points in a single season—this was their fourth such game this year.
The Fever emerged victorious with a 111-91 win. They set a new franchise record, reaching 19 games in a season where they scored over 100 points.
With four games left in their regular season, the Fever will resume play on September 18 against the Toronto Tempo, following the World Cup break.
