President Donald Trump recently addressed vandalism concerns regarding the reflecting pool near the Lincoln Memorial. Authorities are currently investigating the damage.
The reflecting pool underwent a $14.8 million renovation, but issues such as peeling paint and algae growth have surfaced. Trump commented on these developments on Truth Social, mentioning improvements in Washington, D.C.’s safety and expressing frustration over the vandalism at the pool.
Things are really looking good in our Nation’s Capital, said Trump. But we’ve had some real problems with vandalism at the Reflecting Pool.
Vandals reportedly damaged the grounds and used chemicals on the pool’s surface. These chemicals resemble those previously used on the National Mall.
The incident follows the costly restoration project designed to enhance the pool, located between the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial. National Park Service workers are addressing the algae issue using ozone nanobubbles and a specialized vacuum system. They assured no harm to marine life or the environment.
Trump mentioned the removal of most of the algae and expects repairs for the vandalized area soon. The algae problem is approximately 75% resolved, he noted, with complete restoration anticipated by next week. Law enforcement is actively investigating the situation, with National Guard and U.S. Park Police officers monitoring the area.
Images online show individuals criticizing the renovation, while others seem to celebrate the algae growth. Efforts to clean the pool and address the vandalism continue.
