Jackson Koivun Secures Victory at 3M Open

At only 21 years of age and after turning professional just 24 days ago, Jackson Koivun has achieved a significant milestone by winning a PGA Tour event. He managed this impressive feat by outplaying Scottie Scheffler, the world’s number one golfer, at the 3M Open held at TPC Twin Cities in Minnesota.

In his decisive final round, Koivun shot 5-under to reach a total of 25-under, which secured his victory. Scheffler’s 8-under final round brought him close, but he still ended three strokes behind Koivun. This performance suggests Koivun is on a trajectory that could soon make him a well-known figure in golf.

Koivun’s standout moment was during the third round when he scored a 10-under 61. This achievement, highlighted by a 28 on the back-nine, set a new tournament record. His focus was evident as he went 3-under in the first six holes of the final round.

On the back-nine, Koivun added two birdies, finishing his final round without any bogeys. This performance capped off an extraordinary tournament at the onset of his professional career. His win brings him a prize of $1.584 million, marking what he hopes is the beginning of many more PGA Tour victories.

Koivun confessed hearing the crowd murmur about Scheffler’s approach but focused on his game. “Scottie’s coming, Scottie’s coming,” was the chatter, but Koivun maintained concentration and played confidently.

Scheffler made a strong effort, going 3-under on the front nine and successfully sinking birdie putts on the first three holes of the back-nine. He maintained some momentum with birdies on two of his last three holes, creating a competitive tension.

Koivun, however, remained steady, scoring par on the last two holes, including the crucial 18th hole. His calculated performance closed with a victorious par putt, celebrated appropriately with a fist pump.
