Jamal Adams, once the New York Jets’ first-round pick, returned to MetLife Stadium as he fought for a spot with the Minnesota Vikings. Sadly, only two weeks after his signing, his future with the team seems uncertain. Adams was carted off in the first half of the Vikings’ 13-10 victory due to a knee injury.
The injury occurred while Adams covered New York Giants receiver Calvin Austin III in the red zone. Adams sprinted to keep up but fell with a non-contact injury, appearing unable to rise quickly.
A cart came for Adams, taking him to the Vikings’ locker room.
Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell addressed the injury during a live interview, stating initial assessments were ‘not good.’
O’Connell praised Adams, saying, ‘In a short time, Jamal has done an unbelievable job here. His passion shows daily. You just feel crushed for him.’
The coach’s remarks highlight the injury’s impact on Adams, who was performing well, including making a significant tackle against the Giants.
Adams joined the Vikings before training camp started on July 28, knowing he needed to secure his roster spot for the upcoming season. This marks his 10th NFL season, a journey longer than early in his career.
At MetLife Stadium, Adams had become integral to the Jets after being selected sixth overall out of LSU in 2017. He earned Pro Bowl selections in 2018 and 2019, with First Team All-Pro honors in 2019. That season, he recorded 6.5 sacks and contributed nine defensive highlights.
The Jets then traded Adams to the Seattle Seahawks, where he spent four seasons. In 2024, he split time between the Tennessee Titans and Detroit Lions. By 2025, he joined the Las Vegas Raiders.
Adams transitioned last season from safety to linebacker, a change the Vikings planned to continue. Viewing himself as a defensive strategist, Adams aims for versatility.
Now, the focus shifts to assessing his recovery prospects, knowing non-contact knee injuries can be severe.
