District of Columbia U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro has announced her office is examining the financial disclosures of Rep. Ilhan Omar, a Minnesota Democrat. This inquiry opens a new chapter in the ongoing controversy surrounding Omar’s substantial assets.
Speaking on Fox News’ ‘America Reports’, Pirro detailed a joint operation with the United Kingdom targeting online scam networks in West Africa. This effort led to arrests, the seizure of electronic devices, and removal of millions of fraudulent social media accounts.
The latest on Omar’s financial situation reveals a sharp increase in the reported value of businesses connected to her husband, Tim Mynett. By 2024, assets from businesses tied to Mynett were valued at up to $30 million, up from a maximum of $51,000 in 2023.
Omar’s Washington, D.C., home was searched by federal agents as part of an ongoing investigation into her immigration paperwork. Homeland Security Investigations agents executed a search warrant confirmed by the Justice Department. It remains uncertain if these actions are connected to the financial investigation.
The financial disclosures faced scrutiny from congressional Republicans, particularly House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, who requested financial records from Mynett’s businesses in February.
These original filings showed assets linked to Mynett’s ventures — a California winery and a D.C. venture capital firm — with valuations jumping significantly. The winery, eStCru LLC, increased from a valuation of up to $50,000 in 2023 to as much as $5 million in 2024. Meanwhile, Rose Lake Capital LLC showed an even sharper rise, ultimately valued up to $25 million in 2024.
In April, Omar amended the disclosures to significantly reduce the couple’s reported assets, explaining the original filings had not accounted for business liabilities. Omar has repeatedly asserted she is not a millionaire.
In September, the Office of Congressional Conduct recommended dismissing misconduct allegations against Omar. The congressional watchdog found no substantial evidence of false reporting or incomplete disclosures violating federal law or House rules.
The recent federal investigation initiated by Pirro is separate from the previous congressional review. Omar’s latest financial disclosure in May listed assets ranging between $20,000 and $125,000, per a Minnesota Star Tribune analysis.
Omar denies any wrongdoing, accusing the Trump administration of politically targeting her. She has been a target of criticism from President Donald Trump and other Republicans.
