Journey drummer Deen Castronovo experienced a medical emergency during the band’s performance in Tulsa, Oklahoma, leading to his hospitalization on Thursday. The concert halted after two songs, with band members requesting prayers for Castronovo.

Castronovo, 62, was taken to a hospital after leaving the stage. Keyboardist Jonathan Cain addressed attendees, apologizing for the disruption and asking for continued prayers for Castronovo’s recovery.

We’re going to see what happens as this progresses, Cain explained. It’s an unfortunate situation. We’re very sorry. We’re hoping it’s only a delay, but please — I’m sorry. Don’t worry. Have your prayers ready. Have your prayers ready for Deen Castronovo, everybody. Thank you.

Guitarist Neal Schon informed the audience of the band’s plan to continue the show with Steve Toomey, their longtime drum tech, stepping in. He urged fans to support Toomey as the concert resumed shortly after the interruption.

The medical event occurred amidst Journey’s ongoing farewell tour, slated to run through November. Lead singer Arnel Pineda reassured the crowd about Castronovo’s condition, referencing a light-hearted cause.

Schon dedicated the concert to Castronovo, expressing hope for his recovery and emphasizing the band’s resilience amid challenges.

The exact cause of Castronovo’s emergency has not been released. This comes as Journey progresses through their fall tour dates, a part of the ‘Final Frontier Tour’. The band consists of Schon, Cain, Pineda, Castronovo, keyboardist Jason Derlatka, and bassist Todd Jensen.

Schon has highlighted the tour as a testament to Journey’s impactful music and its dedicated fan base, with gratitude for their support across the years.
