Kai Trump, a freshman at the University of Miami, is experiencing unexpected challenges during her first year on the golf course. Trump joined the Hurricanes’ women’s golf team this year but has encountered a setback due to a wrist injury.
Recently, she underwent successful surgery to address the injury she suffered in September. Trump, the granddaughter of President Donald Trump, shared a photo on Instagram showing her in a hospital bed with her arm in a sling and cast. The surgery was performed at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York.
“While I had hoped to avoid surgery, after talks with my family, coaches, and athletic training staff I know I made the best decision for my long-term health and my future in the game I love,” Trump wrote on social media.
Trump was optimistic about her recovery, expressing determination to embrace the situation with patience. She acknowledged that the unexpected turn of events in her freshman year is something she must accept and work through.
The wrist trouble became apparent during her first college tournament. Notably, she had a previous surgery on her left wrist in January to repair issues with the stabilizing tissues of her ECU tendon and damage to the triangular fibrocartilage complex.
Though Trump played a three-round tournament in Muncie, Indiana, recently, her recovery timeline remains unspecified. She expressed gratitude to Dr. Michelle G. Carlson, her teammates, coaches, and family for their unwavering support.
“Recovery will take time, but I’m incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by amazing people who continue to lift me up, encourage me, and remind me that every challenge is an opportunity to grow,” she continued in her Instagram post.
Trump emphasized the importance of having supportive people around her during her recovery. She remains hopeful and excited to return to the team, eager to continue pursuing the sport she loves. As she focuses on healing, Trump is confident that she will soon rejoin her team, stronger than before.
