Kevin Pollak Reveals Rip Torn’s Eccentric On-Set Behavior

Kevin Pollak shared his experiences with one of Hollywood’s most eccentric actors, Rip Torn, during his appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show.” Known for his role in “Tulsa King,” Pollak described Torn as the “craziest” actor he ever worked with.

Pollak recounted several bizarre incidents from the set of “Canadian Bacon,” a film that starred John Candy and premiered after Torn’s death. He mentioned that Torn would frequently suspect someone in the cast or crew was plotting against him.

One recurring topic during their interactions was Torn’s purported inclusion on former President Richard Nixon’s enemies list. Pollak joked about Torn’s daily reminders of this, remarking, “If a day also went by without Rip Torn saying, ‘I was on Nixon’s list.’ All right, we got it.” Despite the curiosity surrounding Torn’s relationship with Nixon’s list, Pollak noted that no one dared to inquire further.

While filming “Canadian Bacon,” Pollak shared an anecdote involving Torn and actor Kevin O’Connor, who was staying next door to Torn at the Four Seasons Hotel in Toronto. O’Connor and his wife often overheard Torn’s outbursts, leading them to compile a humorous top 10 list of his most memorable lines. Pollak recalled hearing Torn yell at someone, “I said milk it like a cow.” This provided insight into Torn’s unpredictable off-camera behavior.

Torn left a significant mark in the entertainment industry across film, television, and theater. His acclaim included an Academy Award nomination for “Cross Creek,” along with recognizability from roles in “Men in Black” and “The Larry Sanders Show.” His portrayal of Artie on “The Larry Sanders Show” resulted in six consecutive Emmy nominations, culminating in a win in 1996.

Torn’s eccentricity on set is part of his complex legacy in Hollywood, remembered through Pollak’s entertaining stories and Torn’s enduring contributions to film and television.
