Kim Mathers Jailed for Violating Drug and Alcohol Tests

On Thursday, Kim Mathers was jailed by a district court judge for repeatedly violating drug and alcohol testing requirements. Mathers, 51, from Chesterfield Township, questioned her lawyer about the duration of her jail stay immediately after Judge William Hackel granted a prosecutor’s request to revoke her bonds across three cases due to noncompliance.

Judge Hackel at the 42-II District Court in New Baltimore mentioned that Mathers might be released to an in-patient facility. Assistant Macomb Prosecutor Joseph McCarthy emphasized that Mathers has been encouraged for two months to join a treatment program since her second charge in May. McCarthy expressed concerns about the offenses’ nature and the repeated violations, highlighting the potential risk Mathers poses to herself and the community. He urged for her immediate remand to jail.

Mathers’ attorney, Camilla Barkovic, disagreed with the prosecution’s claims but did not contest the multiple bond violations. Jeremy Stradley from EMS Testing and Freedom Bail Bonds was available to discuss the test results, though his testimony became unnecessary due to Barkovic’s agreement on the stipulations.

Kim Mathers, visibly upset, directed her gaze at Assistant Macomb County Prosecutor Joseph McCarthy in the New Baltimore courtroom shortly after entering with a friend.

Outside the courtroom, Barkovic defended Mathers, describing her as a wonderful woman who is being victimized by the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office. Hackel voided Mathers’ $10,000 bonds and a $5,000 bond, with specific violations undisclosed due to the stipulation.

Mathers, the ex-wife of rapper Eminem, has faced legal issues since her first drunk driving arrest in February. She was arrested again for drunk driving in May, only two days post her plea for the initial incident. In June, a bench warrant was issued after Mathers missed a court appearance. Recently on July 11, Mathers was hospitalized post-passing out at home and allegedly kicked a police officer during the event, leading to charges of resisting arrest.

On Thursday, Mathers was due for sentencing following her no-contest plea made on May 11 for operating while impaired and failing to report an accident from a February 16 hit-and-run involving children in her vehicle. Mathers was operating a white Range Rover when she hit a parked silver Dodge Ram pickup truck, according to police reports.

Additionally, Mathers faces a pretrial hearing for her second recent drunk driving case. She is charged with felony drunk driving (third offense) after colliding with a Jeep Cherokee while driving a 2026 Kia on May 13. She also attended a show-cause hearing concerning her bond violations.

Assistant Prosecutor Joseph McCarthy requested Judge Hackel to remit Mathers to jail, which Mathers’ attorney, Camilla Barkovic, objected to vehemently.
