1 week ago 0

EAGAN, Minn. — Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kyler Murray will rejoin the team for their upcoming game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell announced on Monday that Murray, now cleared from the NFL’s concussion protocol, will return to the starting lineup.

In the season opener against the Green Bay Packers, Murray played for only 11 snaps. Packers safety Javon Bullard’s hit sidelined Murray with a concussion. Carson Wentz stepped in to lead the Vikings, helping secure a comeback victory over the Packers with a 39-22 score after 29 unanswered points. During Wentz’s play against the Chicago Bears, his efforts contributed to a 9-3 win and were marked by reliable defense and efficient running.

In his appearances across two games, Wentz completed 23 of 39 passes for 276 yards and three touchdowns. Although sacked six times, Wentz had zero turnovers, proving effective as a temporary replacement.

The Chicago Bears, meanwhile, received news that their quarterback, Caleb Williams, avoided a severe hamstring injury, providing some relief to the team. With or without Williams, the Bears face significant challenges. Week 2 highlighted several issues, as explored by analyst Brad Biggs.

Reflecting on historical performances, the Bears once saw a game where Walter Payton was held to zero net yards in his NFL debut. Backup quarterback Tyson Bagent is now prepared to step in if Williams is not fit to play.
