Lindsay Shiver, a Georgia mother and former beauty queen, faces accusations of plotting with her alleged Bahamian lover, Adrien Bethel, to hire a hitman to kill her ex-NFL player husband, Robert Shiver. Her U.S. attorney, Craig Shirley, claims her prosecution should be dismissed due to ‘legally fatal’ evidence issues.
Shirley argues that Bahamian prosecutors lack jurisdiction for these charges because the alleged conspiracy occurred while Shiver was in the United States. He states that there is clear evidence from multiple independent sources placing Shiver in the U.S. on July 16, 2023, contrary to the indictment’s claims that she was in the Bahamas.
According to Shirley, proving Shiver was in the Bahamas on that date is a necessary legal requirement. Without fulfilling this, the Bahamian authorities lack the authority to prosecute her. Shirley views this discrepancy as a major jurisdictional flaw in the Bahamian government’s case against Shiver.
Lindsay cannot be prosecuted under the Bahamian Penal Code for an alleged act committed at a time when the undisputed evidence establishes that she was not in The Bahamas.
During a separate investigation into a break-in at a local bar, Bahamian police found WhatsApp messages on a suspect’s phone that implicated Shiver. These messages included photos of Robert Shiver and alleged instructions from Lindsay Shiver to ‘Kill him.’ Defense attorneys argue these messages were misinterpreted.
Shiver, Bethel, and the alleged hitman, Faron Newbold Jr., were arrested in July 2023 and charged with conspiracy to commit murder under Bahamian law. All have pleaded not guilty.
Shirley expressed discontent with the ongoing prosecution and believes that Bahamian authorities should drop the charges due to the lack of jurisdiction. His statement is issued independently and not in coordination with Shiver or her Bahamas-based attorney, Terrel Butler.
