LIV Golf Secures Investment for Future Beyond 2026

The Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) announced in April that funding for LIV Golf would end after the 2026 season. This sparked speculation that LIV Golf might not continue beyond this point. However, on Wednesday, LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil dispelled these rumors.

During a press briefing ahead of the LIV New York tournament at Trump National Bedminster, O’Neil confirmed that a new investor has been secured to support the league. While the specifics of the investor remain undisclosed, O’Neil shared significant plans for LIV Golf’s next phase.

“LIV Golf has an agreement in place with a lead investor, signed by the investor and approved by the Board, to anchor the transaction and play a key role in supporting the path forward for the League’s next era, driven by and for the players,” said O’Neil.

He also announced a groundbreaking change where players would hold a majority of the equity in LIV Golf, marking a first for a major global sports league. The goal is to finalize this transaction by September.

Beyond these announcements, the future structure of LIV Golf and its roster remain uncertain. The 2027 schedule plans to include 10 events, divided equally between the United States and international locations.

Despite the confirmed continuation beyond 2026, questions remain about the fate of the LIV Team Championship scheduled for late August. Reports suggested that the event might be canceled due to logistical and financial issues, with past major champion Martin Kaymer describing the event as “highly unlikely” to occur.

A source revealed ongoing discussions with potential investors for the circuit’s ongoing and long-term financial stability. The positive outcomes of these discussions were confirmed by the league’s recent announcements.
