Los Angeles Court Examines Forensic Evidence in D4vd Case

Prosecutors detailed forensic evidence in a Los Angeles courtroom to argue that singer David Burke, known as D4vd, should face trial for the murder of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez. On the second day of Burke’s preliminary hearing, police forensic specialists discussed evidence collected from his garage and Tesla, which allegedly links him to the crime.

Burke has denied charges of murder, child sexual abuse, and body mutilation. His legal team claims he is not responsible for Rivas Hernandez’s death. Testimonies have described how authorities collected potential evidence, including blood samples, from Burke’s property.

Forensic Investigation Details

Lauren Wallace, a criminalist with the Los Angeles Police Department, testified about finding what appeared to be blood stains on the garage floor mats in Burke’s Hollywood home. She noted slits on the mats, likely caused by a sharp object. Blood from the garage reportedly matched Rivas Hernandez’s DNA. Tests on the two chain saws in the garage showed no blood, but a chemical spray made possible blood stains visible on the floor.

The presence of potential blood evidence was also found on garbage bags, cleaning wipes, and a rowing machine. Additionally, another forensic expert, Chelsea Murillo, found similar stains in Burke’s Tesla.

Defense Challenges Evidence Collection

The defense questioned the thoroughness of the evidence collection process. Blair Berk, Burke’s attorney, emphasized the handling of evidence and questioned why DNA swabs were not taken on the Tesla’s exterior. Murillo responded that it was not deemed necessary at the time.

Prosecutors’ Accusation and Motivation

Prosecutors allege Burke murdered Rivas Hernandez to preserve his music career. They claim Burke began a sexual relationship with her when she was 13, and that she threatened to expose him, which led to her murder. Prosecutors believe Burke killed her on April 23, 2025, and concealed her body in his Tesla, found months later.

Records indicate Burke had purchased items such as chain saws and a body bag, which are said to have been used in the crime. Assistant District Attorney Joshua Byers testified about locating a body bag containing Rivas Hernandez’s dismembered remains.

Discovery of Additional Evidence

Rivas Hernandez’s passport was found along a rural Santa Barbara County road, about 95 miles from Burke’s home. Investigators linked Burke to the area around the time of the murder.

Burke’s Career and Finances

Financial analysts revealed Burke earned at least $10 million from his music career between 2023 and 2025. Known as D4vd, his music gained popularity on platforms like TikTok and Spotify. He toured with notable artists and performed at major events such as Coachella.

Forthcoming trial proceedings will examine whether finance and reputation played a role in the alleged crime.
