Major Police Response to L.A. Street Takeover

4 weeks ago 0

The Los Angeles Police Department responded decisively to an illegal street takeover early Saturday in the Harbor Gateway area of L.A., close to Gardena. Numerous law enforcement agencies joined the effort.

Authorities reported an extensive presence of vehicles near South Figueroa Street and West Alondra Boulevard. Officers informed OnScene.TV that approximately 160 vehicles were towed. They made numerous arrests and discovered six firearms.

Councilmember Tim McOsker, representing the district including Harbor Gateway, discussed the incident with OnScene.TV. He confirmed that cars were impounded and drivers were arrested, while other attendees received citations. Children present were taken to a nearby station, where their guardians could collect them.

McOsker noted that around 3 a.m., police encircled the intersection to prevent attendees from escaping. He remarked, “This area frequently experiences street takeovers, often on weekends, especially during the summer. With it being the first night of Labor Day weekend, LAPD was prepared.”

LAPD vehicles cordoned off the area to stop participants from leaving, explained the councilmember in a statement to OnScene.TV.

Footage from OnScene.TV depicted agents from the Homeland Security Investigations, part of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, inspecting the scene. McOsker admitted uncertainty over the agency’s involvement, commenting, “I don’t know what role they played, this was a local police operation to stop street takeovers.”
