A 24-year-old man was taken into custody following a shooting that left a 52-year-old man critically injured in the New City neighborhood on Chicago’s South Side. The incident occurred shortly after 2:10 a.m. on the 5100 block of South Emerald Avenue, according to police reports.
The confrontation began with an argument between the two men, escalating into a physical fight. During this altercation, the younger man drew a firearm and shot the older man in the head. Emergency services transported the victim to UChicago Medicine, where his condition was reported as critical.
The 24-year-old suspect was arrested at the scene, and authorities indicated that charges are still being processed. Police believe that the shooting was a domestic-related incident.
