March on Washington: Attendees Support Systemic Political Change

1 month ago 0

Fox News Digital engaged with attendees and activists at the recent March on Washington, who expressed support for transformative political changes, including the adoption of socialist policies in their communities. This comes as candidates backed by the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) secure primary victories ahead of the midterm elections.

Sravya, a Washington, D.C. resident, shared with Fox News Digital her advocacy for constitutional reform. Sravya stated, “I would definitely advocate for that from ground, up, like abolishing [the Constitution], rewriting it, including people’s voices that haven’t been included on there as well.” She also emphasized the need to revise amendments that target marginalized individuals.

The “March on Washington 2026: Defend the Vote” took place on Friday at the Lincoln Memorial, marking the 63rd anniversary of the iconic 1963 event organized by Rev. Al Sharpton’s National Action Network.

During discussions with attendees, Fox News Digital explored the thoughts surrounding abolishing and rewriting the Constitution, as well as the relevance of DSA policies to the future of America. Some attendees embraced these radical ideas.

Socialists launch a radical platform aiming to abolish the U.S. Senate, seeking fundamental transformation of America.

Attendees at the March shared their views on DSA platform goals. Democratic leaders, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, and Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders, took the stage to emphasize voting and civil-rights protections.

Sravya added, “I think so,” regarding the potential abolition of the Senate. She noted the necessity for reconstructing it due to the presence of long-standing older leaders. Systemic reform was highlighted as essential.

Darius from Maryland expressed strong support for eliminating colonial structures that harm marginalized and oppressed communities.

The DSA platform includes abolishing the Senate, echoed by several march attendees seeking widespread systemic change. They also supported policies seen in Democratic Socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s agenda.

DSA-backed candidates have secured primary wins over establishment-backed Democrats across various states, including Colorado, New York, Pennsylvania, and Michigan.

Some attendees showed interest in promoting Mamdani-style candidates in their regions. Kassandra from Ann Arbor, Michigan, advocated for her state aligning with Mamdani’s approach in New York.

Saying she valued universal health care, unionization, and removing money from politics, Kassandra mentioned, “I feel like [El-Sayed] is very [pro] union. He wants to get everyone together and support all different religions, races, and I really value human rights as a therapist.” She acknowledged beneficial socialist-aligned policies from previous presidents but didn’t name specific examples.

Esteban, a New Jersey resident working in New York City, noted noticeable changes since Mamdani took office, stating, “I feel like someone who’s lived through a lot of mayoral terms in many different cities, this is probably the most change I’ve seen so quickly. So far what I’m seeing is good change.”

These conversations demonstrate a push for systemic change and policy reform among attendees at the March on Washington.
