Evacuation Centers Offer Shelter

In response, nine municipalities have established reception and respite centers, providing shelter for more than 2,500 evacuees. Support and resources are available for those affected by the evacuations.

Impact of Climate Change

This summer, Southern Europe has experienced numerous fires. Scientists highlight climate change as a factor that increases the frequency and intensity of heat and dry conditions, thereby making the region more vulnerable to wildfires.

France has faced multiple heat waves even before the onset of summer, leading to wildfires that have ravaged extensive areas amidst record high temperatures and dry weather. Vegetation is enduring severe water stress, contributing to the risk of fires.

Statistics on Wildfire Incidents

Interior Minister Laurent Nunez has disclosed that since the year began, France has encountered more than 12,500 wildfires. These incidents have resulted in nearly 44,000 hectares burned, indicating the serious wildfire challenges faced by the nation.
