Media Outlets Sue Over White House Ban

2 weeks ago 0

CNN, Politico, and MS NOW, the three media outlets recently banned from the White House by President Donald Trump, are filing a First Amendment lawsuit to regain their access. The announcement came in a joint statement released on Monday morning.

The statement read, “This morning, we notified the government that we are filing a lawsuit today to protect our First Amendment rights and defend the principle that the government does not decide what the press reports or publishes. Without notice or process, the White House revoked our journalists’ credentials because it objected to our reporting. Left unchallenged, this threatens press freedom and the public’s right to independent journalism free from government interference.”

Trump, in a post on Truth Social on Friday, justified the ban by accusing the outlets of spreading “FAKE NEWS!” He stated, “Media Outlets shouldn’t be able to constantly write or report FICTION and LIES when they’re covering the President of the United States, the Trump Administration, or the United States of America. Other Fake News Media Outlets to follow.”

On Saturday morning, correspondents from the three outlets were denied entry to the White House. MS NOW White House correspondent Akayla Gardner reported live that her entry badge had been taken away.

This situation is developing, and further updates are expected as the story unfolds.
