Mia Sara Reflects on ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’ Experience

7 days ago 0

Nearly four decades after the release of the film, Mia Sara shared insights into her experience working on “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.” In a recent interview, she discussed her role as Sloane Peterson and reflected on her acting career.

Mixed Feelings About the Film

Sara spoke about the film’s iconic status and its significance to its fans, but she revealed personal challenges during the production. Working with director John Hughes was not enjoyable for her. I don’t really give interviews because making ‘Ferris Bueller’ was not that good an experience for me, she told The Sunday Times. Despite this, she acknowledged the film’s value and importance, even though she didn’t have a harmonious relationship with Hughes, whom she described as a strange guy.

Hughes wanted the cast to bond and appreciate French New Wave films. However, Sara already knew these films and didn’t always align with his expectations. I didn’t have the emotional maturity to deal with other people’s egos, or my own, she added.

Career and Aftermath

Looking back, Sara viewed many aspects of acting as challenging. She eventually shifted focus to poetry, feeling that she lacked the resilience needed for auditioning. There are some things in my career that I’m really proud of, but overall it was not a happy career for me, she admitted.

The film’s cultural impact persists, with her children noting how their friends react upon learning about her role. My kids say they can see the moment their friends make the connection between me and the movie, she remarked.

Behind the Scenes

A secret romance developed on set between Jennifer Grey and Matthew Broderick. This relationship began during filming and lasted for about two years. Alan Ruck, who played Cameron Frye, noted how Grey was curious about Broderick’s personality, leading to their connection.

Ruck also shared his own casting experience. Despite concerns over his age, his rapport with Broderick during auditions convinced the casting directors that he was right for the role.

Mia Sara humorously acknowledged the ongoing recognition her role receives, with her children’s friends realizing her part in the beloved comedy.
