A routine traffic stop in Miami-Dade took a tragic turn on Wednesday night when a wanted individual attempted to flee from deputies, leading to a fatal crash. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office reported the incident, emphasizing the sequence of events that led to the loss of life.

Details of the Incident

The event took place at 7:42 p.m. when deputies halted a vehicle driven by 21-year-old Luis Manuel Perez at the intersection of Northwest 51st Terrace and 33rd Avenue. Upon checking his records, they discovered an outstanding warrant against him, prompting Perez to suddenly flee the scene, according to authorities.

During the ensuing search for Perez, he inadvertently drove into a dead-end street. In his attempt to escape, he carelessly ran a stop sign, resulting in a violent collision with another car. This impact caused the second vehicle to overturn, further striking an unmarked sheriff’s vehicle driven by a deputy involved in the search.

Aftermath of the Collision

The driver of the civilian vehicle, who has not been publicly identified, suffered critical injuries. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue quickly transported this driver to the Ryder Trauma Center; however, the driver later succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.

Following the crash, police apprehended Perez at Northwest 53rd Street and 33rd Avenue, as detailed in his arrest affidavit. He was then taken to a hospital for a medical assessment. Perez’s file includes a military hold, emphasizing the severity of the legal proceedings he may face.
