Stefano Eduardo Cremasco-Cicero, a Miami steakhouse manager, was found in his apartment building’s lobby with blood on his body and clothes. He was holding a knife and claimed he acted in self-defense after his mother was discovered stabbed to death inside the apartment. The police subsequently charged the 36-year-old with second-degree murder with a weapon, according to Miami-Dade County jail records.
Miami police responded to a report for police assistance around 4:47 a.m. Officers encountered Cremasco-Cicero in the lobby with blood on his hands, clothing, and shoes. He directed them to his apartment, where his mother lay with several stab wounds. Emergency responders pronounced her dead shortly after their arrival. Authorities have not disclosed her age or publicly identified her, stating only that she was visiting from Mexico.
The situation developed when a food delivery driver arrived at the building and met Cremasco-Cicero in the lobby. He opened the door for her and asked her to call 911, although he ultimately made the call himself. As they awaited the police, the driver noticed blood on him. She attempted to return his phone, which he did not accept, and she later gave it to responding officers.
Police reviewed surveillance footage and building access records. The video showed Cremasco-Cicero and his mother returning to the building the evening before. Later, he was seen entering an elevator with a blood-stained shirt and pants, holding a knife. After exiting, he picked up the dropped knife and used another elevator to return upstairs.
Cremasco-Cicero’s wife, who was in France, informed detectives that his mother had been staying with him. She mentioned that her husband and his mother were not close after his parents divorced. He was reportedly under stress due to preparations for opening a new restaurant in Coconut Grove.
Homicide detectives found several blood-covered kitchen knives and shirts, broken glass, and a broken wine bottle in the apartment. Cremasco-Cicero, the U.S. operating manager of 1986 Steakhouse in Miami, was taken into custody. He is held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and has an ICE detainer due to his illegal immigration status.
A Department of Homeland Security spokesperson confirmed Cremasco-Cicero’s status, stressing that his claims will be heard by an immigration judge, ensuring due process. The spokesperson emphasized that criminal illegal aliens are not welcome in the U.S., citing the broader enforcement policies under current administration.
The motive for the alleged murder remains unclear. Authorities continue to investigate, and Miami police have been contacted for additional information.
