Michael J. Fox received the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award at the 2026 Emmy Awards, recognizing his contributions to Parkinson’s disease research advocacy. This honorary Emmy, presented by the Television Academy and the Bob & Dolores Hope Foundation, honors individuals whose philanthropic efforts have significantly impacted society since its inception in 2002.
Fox graced the Emmy Awards ceremony with his wife, Tracy Pollan, marking their first attendance in 13 years. The event took place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, California, on September 14, 2026. Fox’s presence at the 78th Emmy Awards was met with a standing ovation as he took the stage and reflected on his journey since being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.
Diagnosed with young-onset Parkinson’s disease at 29 in 1991, Fox publicly disclosed his condition in 1998. During his acceptance speech, he shared the initial secrecy surrounding his diagnosis and his concerns about its potential impact on his career and audience relationships. He expressed gratitude for the support he received, which motivated him to continue his work.
“Would they laugh if they knew I was sick? And then I was stunned by the support I got. The support from all of you. It was so uplifting. It made me feel like I could keep doing this and I hadn’t lost what I do and they couldn’t take this away from me. And it’s because you stood up for me, and I really appreciate it.”
Fox highlighted the progress of his foundation, indicating optimism about being close to finding a cure for Parkinson’s disease. The internet buzzed with reactions to Fox’s recognition, with users expressing admiration for his influence and advocacy.
One user commented on X, “Michael J. Fox ❤️❤️❤️❤️👏👏👏 We can all learn so much from him…🙏🏻👍,” while another remarked, “I really do think we underestimate how much Michael J Fox really put Parkinson’s ‘on the map’ so to speak. I knew about it as a little kid because of him and his advocacy for it.”
A third user added, “Michael J. Fox is an inspiration. The guy got dealt an awful hand.” The award ceremony provided an opportunity for the public to honor Fox’s dedication and achievements beyond his acting career.
