Michael Jackson’s Parenting Techniques Aimed to Keep His Children Grounded

2 days ago 0

Paris Jackson shared insights into her upbringing with her famous father, Michael Jackson. Despite his global fame and larger-than-life persona, the late King of Pop implemented strict rules to maintain a sense of normalcy for his children.

Michael Jackson had his children focus on responsibilities before entertainment. Paris recalled needing to complete homework and chores before weekend outings. These outings often included activities like visiting animals or going to movies.

“The cool, like very congruent line throughout my childhood was, if you’re good, and you do your chores, and you do your homework… Then on the weekends you can go see some animals, and you can go ride some rides, and you can go to the movies,” Paris told the host of “Call Her Daddy,” Alexandra Cooper.

Michael emphasized that attractions at his Neverland Ranch were not intended for his children but for less fortunate children. This guiding principle remained as they moved frequently and seldom stayed in one place for more than a year. Paris remembered how wherever they lived, similar incentives were offered based on their behavior.

Besides chores, television and movie watching were also regulated. Only after fulfilling their duties could the children consume entertainment, though they had the rare exception of studying films without sound.

To shield his children from the spotlight, Michael enforced the wearing of masks in public. Paris expressed understanding of this move, noting it allowed them to enjoy normal outings without being recognized.

“It made sense because it was like, ‘Oh yeah, if you do this now, then you can go to Chuck E. Cheese and be normal this weekend ’cause no one will know who you are,'” she said.

Even with precautions, Paris was aware of her father’s global presence but did not grasp how extensive it was until witnessing crowds of fans outside her hotel.

Paris, alongside her brothers Prince and Bigi, pursued careers in entertainment. After public appearances with family post-Michael’s passing in 2009, Paris ventured into modeling, acting, and eventually music. She released her first album, Wilted, in 2020.
