Miles White Strives for Athlete Excellence

Miles White, a junior at Hobart, has honed his emotional control to boost his athletic performance. His maturity has grown, transitioning from a more aggressive player to a composed and balanced athlete.

White, standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 220 pounds, plays multiple positions including linebacker/safety and running back. This season, he’s already made a significant impact, recording 19 tackles, with five being for a loss, and rushing for 180 yards and four touchdowns over 27 carries. Last year, he completed the season with 69 tackles, including seven for loss, an interception, a fumble recovery, and rushed for 194 yards with three touchdowns.

The team’s coach, Eric Schreiber Jr., commends White’s growth, especially in maturity since his freshman year. Schreiber notes White’s increased responsibilities and ability to execute them effectively, contributing significantly to the team. White’s versatility allows him to perform various roles—from blitzing to coverage, and running the football—making him a valuable asset.

White embraces his role and prefers defensive play due to its decision-making influence on the game’s outcome. His presence and influence on the team have improved. Ranked sixth in the Class 4A state coaches poll, the Brickies benefit from White’s leadership, as he encourages team cohesion and optimizes energy levels.

Senior linebacker Vontrell Jones observes White’s contributions to team morale, highlighting White’s ability to energize practice sessions and uplifting slower moments. Jones respects White’s maturity and sportsmanship, considering him integral to the team’s dynamics.

Looking forward, White aims to extend the Brickies’ season achievements. They previously secured a sectional title and competed in the 4A state championship game. This year, their preparation and team spirit aim to deepen their playoff run, embodying confidence and resilience.

White’s athletic repertoire includes basketball and volleyball, showcasing his diverse sports involvement. He’s started in basketball for two seasons and averaged 4.3 points and 5.7 rebounds last season.

As White envisages a future in college football, he’s planning visits to major programs like Iowa State and Louisville. Coach Schreiber emphasizes the importance of offseason efforts and academic focus to further White’s ambitions.
