Minnesota Lynx’s Strategic Success: Olivia Miles Shines in Rookie Season

1 week ago 0

The Minnesota Lynx have built a reputation for their ability to select the right players during the WNBA Draft. Olivia Miles, chosen by the Lynx this year, is proving to be an outstanding choice. Known for her impressive gameplay, Miles was selected with the No. 2 overall pick and has rapidly become a rising star.

On September 18, 2026, Olivia Miles showcased her talents during a WNBA game against the New York Liberty in Minneapolis. Her performance did not disappoint. In a victory against the Connecticut Sun, Miles achieved a significant milestone, setting a new rookie scoring record with 21 points. This record, previously held by Caitlin Clark, highlights Miles’ talent on the court.

“It’s special, but it means we’re more so working well as a team. I have great teammates around me, great vets who allow me to be me out there,” Miles said. “It wouldn’t be possible without one, a coach that believes in you and then two, having teammates that have my back.”

Miles has amassed 790 points over the course of 40 games in the current season. Despite the WNBA’s expanded schedule, both Miles and Clark set records in 40 games. Caitlin Clark previously held the record with 769 points in her rookie season.

Miles, a former TCU Horned Frogs standout, broke additional rookie records set by Clark. In a June matchup against the Golden State Valkyries, she scored eight 3-pointers, setting a new record for the most 3-pointers made by a rookie in a single game.

Apart from scoring, Miles reached 350 points, 100 rebounds, and 100 assists faster than any other rookie. She accomplished this in 21 games, surpassing the pace set by Clark and Andrea Stinson, a former Chicago Sting player.

As the season continues, the Minnesota Lynx maintain a strong record of 32-10. They lead the league, one game ahead of the Valkyries. The team’s success reflects their strategic player selections and synergistic team dynamics.
