The Mount Sinai Health System has announced receipt of a grand jury subpoena demanding details on adolescent patients who received gender-related care. This information was confirmed by a hospital spokeswoman on Friday.
Mount Sinai is the second hospital system in Manhattan to disclose an investigation into its gender-transition treatments for minors. The Trump administration aims to cease these treatments, arguing they negatively impact vulnerable children.
NYU Langone was the first to reveal a subpoena last month, seeking details to identify all patients under 18 who received gender-related treatments since 2020. Both subpoenas originated from the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas.
Lucia Lee, a spokeswoman for Mount Sinai, emphasized the hospital’s commitment to patient privacy. In her statement, she mentioned that the hospital may provide de-identified information if required, ensuring all patient-identifying details are removed.
“We are committed to safeguarding our patients’ privacy,” Lucia Lee stated on Friday.
The hospital also noted its obligation under New York law to inform affected patients if records are disclosed.
