New Area Code 465 Introduced for New York City

2 weeks ago 0

New York City is set to introduce a new area code, 465, to keep up with the city’s growing demand for telephone numbers. This change marks the eighth area code for the city, highlighting its expanding population and communication needs.

Starting Thursday, the new 465 area code will be in use across multiple boroughs, including the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, and the Marble Hill area of Manhattan. This update follows the last new code introduction in 2017, as the city continues to generate numerous telephone lines amidst its bustling environment.

The 212 code, launched in 1947, remains an iconic symbol of Old New York, often associated with a sense of exclusivity. Rapper Azealia Banks references this code in her song “212,” tying it to Manhattan’s vibrant culture.

Area codes often carry cultural significance. They are sometimes perceived as a reflection of NYC’s diverse neighborhoods and unique identities. The introduction of 465 is the latest chapter in the city’s ongoing evolution.
