Republican Jackson Lahmeyer has halted his campaign for Oklahoma’s 1st Congressional District after alleged text messages emerged just ahead of the Republican primary. On Wednesday, Lahmeyer announced on X that, following discussions with his wife, Kendra, and his campaign team, he decided to end his congressional run.
Lahmeyer, a pastor from the Tulsa area and a former U.S. Senate candidate, sought the Republican nomination in the open congressional race. He expressed his desire not to distract his family, church, and the residents of Oklahoma’s 1st Congressional District with his decision to suspend the campaign.
President Donald Trump retracted his endorsement of Lahmeyer on the same day. Trump appreciated Lahmeyer’s efforts during challenging times, stating, “He has always been with me, and I will always be with him.”
Controversy and Allegations
The decision follows allegations reported by the Daily Mail, which gained national attention. The outlet published supposed text messages between Lahmeyer and a former Miss Oklahoma USA. This led to increased scrutiny of Lahmeyer’s alleged actions.
Lahmeyer addressed these allegations by describing the reports as “distorted.” He stated the situation was resolved privately with his wife. “I admit crossing a boundary line through text messaging. I also ended all communication,” Lahmeyer said in a Facebook post. He also questioned the motivation behind the story and the selective nature of the messages’ exposure.
Endorsements and Election Developments
Initially, Trump endorsed Lahmeyer in early May, calling him a “MAGA Warrior.” Now, Trump supports State Representative Mark Tedford. On Tuesday, both Lahmeyer and Tedford advanced to a runoff election, with Lahmeyer securing second place with 25.9% of the vote.
With Lahmeyer out of the race, the competition for Oklahoma’s 1st Congressional District continues without one of its prominent candidates. This is an ongoing story, with more updates to follow as new information becomes available.
